Policy
Privacy Policy
This site collects almost nothing. Everything we do hold comes from a form you chose to fill in.
The website itself
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, has no login, no database, and no advertising or third-party tracking scripts.
The one measurement tool we use is Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views in aggregate. It is cookieless, it does not build a profile of you, and it does not follow you to other sites. We use it to know which pages people actually read.
The forms
Submissions, the faculty reader signup, and the interest list are all Google Forms, hosted by Google. When you use one, you are submitting information to Google, and Google’s own privacy terms apply to that transfer in addition to this policy.
Interest list
We collect your email address, and whatever optional context you give us, such as the language you were hoping to translate from.
We use it only to send award updates — when submissions open, if the form closes early, and when results are announced. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone. Every message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to remove you at any time by writing to info@nulta.org.
Faculty and graduate student volunteers
We collect your name, institution, position, email address, and the languages you read, in order to assign entries and to contact you about the reading period.
Submissions
We collect your name, .edu email address, institution, source language, your
translation, and the source passage.
Identifying information is separated from your translation before it reaches a judge. Each submission is accessible only to NULTA administrators and its assigned judge.
Who your data is shared with
Nobody outside NULTA, with two unavoidable exceptions: Google, which hosts the forms and the responses, and Vercel, which hosts the site and provides the aggregate analytics.
We do not sell data, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or other organizations.
Age
Entry is limited to people 18 or older, and the award is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to info@nulta.org and we will act on it.
Deleting your data during an open cycle may mean we can no longer consider your submission — we will tell you if that is the case before acting.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the bottom of this page and, where the change affects entrants in an open cycle, tell the interest list.
