We only collect what we need to grade your translation, and nothing more.
The website itself
This site sets no cookies and collects no information about you. Anything we hold comes from the forms below.
No analytics are currently running.
The forms
All of our forms are handled through Google Forms. Google’s privacy terms apply and we only keep submissions as long as necessary for grading and honoring awards to the winners.
Interest list
We use your email address only for award updates, and never share it. Email info@nulta.org to be removed at any time.
Readers and judges
We collect your name, institution, position, email address, and the languages you read, in order to assign entries and to contact you about the reading period.
Submissions
We collect your name, an official institution-issued email address, institution, source language, your translation, and the source passage.
We keep your submission and source text only for as long as the award needs them — see the table below.
Identifying information is separated from your translation before it reaches a judge.
Who sees your submission?
- NULTA administrators — the organizers, who handle eligibility checks, anonymization, and assignment.
- Your assigned judge — a faculty member, translator, or graduate student, at another institution in most cases, who reads your translation anonymously. Judges are external to NULTA and are given access solely to evaluate the entry.
- Google, which hosts the forms and stores the responses.
Judges are bound by confidentiality obligations: they may not reproduce, distribute, publish, quote, upload, or otherwise repurpose what they are given. Access is revoked at the close of evaluation, and judges are required to delete any copies they downloaded. The full terms are in the Rights and Permissions policy.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Age
Entry is limited to people 18 or older at the time of submission, and the award is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can ask us to delete your information, or to withdraw your submission from consideration, at any time. Email info@nulta.org and we will act on it.
You can also email us with any changes to your information.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the bottom of this page and, if the change affects entrants in an open cycle, tell the interest list.
